چکیده
Abstract There is a need of reducing the uncertainty in traffic loading-induced settlements within railway embankments. A previously developed model for unbound stone-based materials has been implemented modelling rockfill Particles were represented by simple breakable tetrahedral clumps spheres with four asperities each. Both corner breakage and particle splitting allowed. Embankments heights between 2 10 m generated successive dumping compaction layers on top each other, mimicking construction real Cyclic loading embankments representing traffic, both unbreakable assemblies, was carried out. Results show that mechanical response marked substantial degree exacerbated degradation, especially intermediate to high An analysis rotation showed rearrangement mostly accumulates layers, resulting lack influence embankment height settlements. Breakage, even being (very) limited magnitude, had statistically significant effect. Good agreement common geostatic theories predicting horizontal pressures also observed. Regarding resilient response, linear stiffening observed minor breakage. All all, it shown specific scale, boundary stress conditions results behaviour deviating from under triaxial conditions. Therefore, key contribution showing possible realistically large number cycles furthermore including something not attempted date. Graphic abstract

Detecting Plants on Railway Embankments
This paper investigates problems concerning vegetation along railways and proposes automatic means of detecting ground vegetation. Digital images of railway embankments have been acquired and used for the purpose. The current work mainly proposes two algorithms to be able to achieve automation. Initially a vegetation detection algorithm has been investigated for the purpose of detecting vegetat...
متن کاملSpatial modelling of railway noise propagation
In recent decades, population growth and progress of technology have shaped large and compact urban settlements. Existence of huge transportation systems and developed urban infrastructures are among the most important properties of modern cities. In spite of prompt transit and facilitated daily activities, development of transportation systems causes many problems, including traffic, air and n...
متن کاملA Numerical Study on Geofoam Application in the Settlement Reduction of Railway Embankments
Construction of railway track embankment over a soft subgrade will bring the necessity of using soil improvement methods for bearing capacity and settlement criteria satisfaction. As a practical improvement method, railway embankment filled with geofoam blocks is studied in this paper. First; a bilinear stress-strain model developed in FLAC2D to simulate geofoam embankment behavioral model. Sec...
متن کاملEffect of Constructing Canal in Embankments on Sand Flow through Railway Tracks in Desert Regions
Entry of sand dunes into the railway tracks can result in sand deposition on tracks, railway obstruction, derailment, damage to track flexibility, and impairment of electrical signs and rail fleet. It is aimed to investigate the strategies and solutions for reducing sand aggregation on railway tracks (including construction of sand passage canals through embankments and modification of the geom...
متن کاملDiscrete Element Modelling of Fluidised Bed Spray Granulation
A novel discrete element spray granulation model capturing the key features of fluidised bed hydrodynamics, liquid-solid contacting and agglomeration is presented. The model computes the motion of every individual particle and droplet in the system, considering the gas phase as a continuum. Micro scale processes such as particle-particle collisions, droplet-particle coalescence and agglomeratio...
